Bertha Mae Berryman Hampton was born August 2, 1934 in Lexington, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Hattie Mae Berryman and Humphrey James, Sr. She went to her eternal rest on December 4, 2019.

Bertha accepted Jesus as her personal savior at an early age and became a member of Little Zion Baptist Church in Avon, Kentucky. She later moved her membership to Main Street Baptist Church in Lexington. At Main Street she was a member of the Mass Choir, the Senior Adult Society, Feeding Ministry, and the Talitha Lymen Circle, as well as a teacher of children's Sunday School classes. She also enjoyed going to the Senior Center for exercise and fellowship.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Roberta Bates Rawlings, Ella King, and Mary Patricia Weathers; and three brothers, Russell James, Humphrey James, Jr., and Williams James.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Lonzell Hampton; two daughters, Marilyn Lemerman, Elayne (Donald) Hampton-Harold; a son, Lonzell Branden Hampton; six grandchildren, LéShon Tyrell Hampton, Jòel Christopher Griffin, Tyzana Loaneé Hampton, Jaéden Lukaz Boles, Jazmyne Alissa Hampton and Ava Lynn Hampton; two sisters, Fannie (James) Coffey, and Flora (Nate) James; a brother, Richard (Ella) James; a special niece, Valerie Banks Ford; two special nephews, Mark (Barbara) Rawlings and Cecil (Drew) Banks; many other nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Janice Mullins; four brothers-in-law, Norman Hampton, James (Evelyn) Hampton, Walter (Valerie) Hampton and Stanley Hampton; as well as a host other family and friends.85, wife of Lonzell Hampton, service noon Wednesday Main Street Baptist Church, visit 10:00am arr by Hawkins-Taylor Funeral Home
