Obituary

On October 8, 2024, Don Maurice Burrell was called from labor to reward. Don's time was set up before the foundation of the world began – that on this date and time, Don would go home to meet the Lord.

Through the providential plan of GOD, Don would be born to Don Thomas and Sheila Burrell in Paris, KY, on July 23, 1975. Don graduated from Paris High School in 1994, where he had a passion for playing basketball that would go with him down through the years. Later in life Don dedicated many years of service working at Penske.

Don was an avid Louisville Cardinal basketball fan and an avid Colorado Football fan. He enjoyed playing card games such as spades and was a very big fan of UNO. When you played UNO with Don, you had better bring your "A" game, because he wouldn't cut you any slack. (just ask his family)

Don brought joy and touched everyone who knew him. He showed that he had so much love for his nieces and nephews, whether taking them to games, watching their games, coaching, or even getting them ready for college, from start to finish. He loved spending time with his family. Don showed that he had the love of GOD in his heart. Don was a humble and caring soul; he was loved by many and loved his family. His impact will resonate for generations to come. HE IS A LEGEND WHO WILL NEVER DIE!

Left to cherish his memories, his parents Don (Debra) Thomas and Sheila (Terry) Rice, Grandmother Seleste Rice and his fiancé Joi Cosby. He also leaves his siblings Donzetta (Marcus) Ashford, Jaronda McPhearson, Amber Hawkins, Tara Martinson, Dejuan Dumphord, Quinn Hawkins, and Trevor Rice. Aunts and Uncles; Dana Thomas, Ophelia Thomas, Yvette (Adama) Ndiaye, Patricia Jones, Joan Williams, Rhonda Bess, Dale (Charles) Brown, Wanda Bowman, William (Soundra) Burrell, Kerry Thomas, Kirt Thomas, Dewayne (Lisa) Rice, Ivan Rice, James (Linda) Dunn, Bruce (Sharon) Bowman, and Greg Bowman. Special friends, Ken Edwards, Evan Ezell, Jamale Clark, Troy Robinson, Brian Washington, Vincent Clark, Chez Marks, Angela Renfro, and Don and Kerri Kruse. Don was preceded in death by his brother, Demar Hawkins, his grandparents, William and Virgie Burrell, Glen and Joan Faye Smith and Robert Rice.

John 10:28 NIV
