September 10, 1931 – April 25, 2018
Grant Deramus Crooks, 86, son of the late Elizabeth P. Crooks and Dawson Crooks, Sr. and husband of Lillian Marie Crooks, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the University of Kentucky Hospital, Lexington, KY.
A native of Bourbon County, he was a graduate of Western High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force for 4 years and retired from Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot after 30 years. He was an active member of Zion Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board, Brotherhood, President and Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer, drove the church van and sang in the choir.
His hobbies included fishing, watching sports and reading and studying his Bible. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Carol Gilkey, Sabrina (Anthony) Penny, Debra Cunningham, Phyllis (Icem) Johnson and Janet (Homer) Reed; six sisters, Brenda Hart, Patricia Crooks, Shirley Crooks, Frances Jones, Elizabeth Duncan and Hazel Johnson; three sister in laws, Mae Roberts, Carolyn Higgins and Anna (William) Marks; two brother in laws, George Grisby and Eugene Grisby; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Frank R. Speaks, Jr.; one brother, Dawson Crooks, Jr.; three sisters, Fannie Crooks, Verline Crooks and Lou Dobbins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM Monday, April 30, 2018 at Zion Baptist Church, 312 8th Street, Paris, KY by Pastor Aaron D. Crumbie and Rev. Dr. Morgan Gilkey. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from10-12 Monday, April 30, 2018 at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jaii Gilkey, Aaron Speaks, Erik Speaks, Eddie Oliver, Odell Cosby, Jr. and Shelby Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Vincent Henderson, DeWayne Henderson, Ralph Black, Richard Davis, Kevin Wilson, Carey Kent Thomas and Tyrone Tucker.
