IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James E.
Greenlee
July 23, 1978 – June 1, 2023
James Edward Greenlee II, better known as "L.J.," was born July 23, 1978 in Lexington, Kentucky, the son of Mr. James and Mrs. Jeralene Greenlee. He was called home from this life on June 1, 2023 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 44 years old.
L.J. was a 1996 graduate of Bryan Station High School, where he was a prominent player on the football team. Later he attended Kentucky State University.
He was employed at the Trane Company for 20 years and retired as a Production Supervisor in 2020. Later that year he went to work for the Beam Suntory Company as a Bottling Supervisor. He worked there until the time of his passing.
At an early age, L.J. made a profession of faith and became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. However, he spent his adolescent years and early young adult years attending Main Street Baptist Church with his parents, until his marriage to Ms. Cassandra Hill. On February 5, 2005, L.J. confirmed his faith, was baptized and became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Joseph L. Owens.
L.J. was a quiet, kind and compassionate young man. He was a man with a happy and peaceful demeanor. He, with a loving smile and a zest for life, exhibited a quiet strength pushing through any adversity. He was an avid sports enthusiast of all types. He loved to play "Corn-hole" and, considering himself the "King of the Cornhole," would welcome all challengers.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandmother, Jeralene Johnson; his maternal grandfather, Robert Jay Johnson; his paternal grandmother, Florence Greenlee; his paternal grandfather, James Greenlee; his maternal aunt, Bobbie Jay Lawson; and paternal aunt, Nan Greenlee.
In addition to his wife and his parents, L.J. leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Jada Greenlee and Kayla Smith; one grandson, Kayden Riley; three sisters, Eva (Richard) Combs of Lexington, Tabitha (Frank) Kendrick of Georgia, and Rochelle Ivy of California; two nieces, Chelsea Combs and Rochelle Ivy; two nephews, Wesley Oliver and Quentin Ivy. He also leaves two maternal uncles, Ronald (Vivian) Johnson of Yuba City, California and Roger Johnson of Lexington; three paternal uncles, Junior Frank Greenlee of Dayton, Ohio, Don (Alice) Greenlee and Norman (Deloris) Tye, both of Lexington; three paternal aunts, Stella Mae Greenlee of Dayton, Ohio, Quetta Greenlee and Beulah Walton, both of Louisville; six maternal aunts, Carolyn Steed, Doralthea (Charles) Rodgers, Tommie Caulder, Peggy (Larry) Arnold and Jannifer (Elder Wayne) Cornelius, all of Lexington, and Charity (Warfield) Hill of Louisville; bonus aunts and uncles include Sharon & Henry Mason, Beverly Hardin & Robert Brooks, Beverly Persley, Rose Sewell, Faith McCoomer, Dedra Williams and the entire Duke and Powell families, all of Lexington.
