Obituary

James Edison McCarty, age 93, departed this life on Thursday, November 12, 2020, in Lexington.

He was born in Little Rock, Kentucky, on March 19, 1924, the son of the late Allie and Ada McCarty, a farmer, and a member of Ruddles Mill Christian Church.

James was a veteran of the United States Army, having served 25 years in the Army reserves, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, a paratrooper, received his Glider Wings, and was called up during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Lee Hawkins McCarty, a grandson, Gary Rose, and a brother Kenneth McCarty. Surviving is his wife, Evelyn McCarty, a son, James Wesley (Susan) McCarty; two daughters, Linda (Steve) Setters, Susie (Tim) Profitt; six grandchildren, Tara Avera, Shawn (Linda) McCarty, Mariah (Nate) Schreader, Jeremiah (Abigail) McCarty, Amy (Jan-Erik) Gustaveson, and Phillip (Wakaba) Profitt. Also surviving are his great grandchildren, James Logan Phillips, Courtney Michelle McCarty, Evan Schreader, Aiden McCarty, Linnea Gustaveson, Zane Gustaveson, Akio Profitt, Sage Profitt, Trey Rose, Evangeline McCarty, and Elena McCarty. The graveside service for James Edison McCarty will be on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Interment will immediately follow.
