James Lee Thompson, 84, husband of Martha Thompson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at his home in Georgetown surrounded by his loving family. Born June 25, 1940 in Munfordville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Robert and Lena Mae Massey Thompson. James was retired from the Georgetown Police Department, where he was proud to have been the first African American Officer on the force. He was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church and enjoyed fishing. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Earl Wood Thompson, Charles Thompson, Ed Lewis Thompson, William A. Thompson, Dorothy Jean Thompson, and great-grandson, Alan Thompson, Jr.

James will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 65 years, Martha Lee Wortham Thompson, sons, James Earl (Misha) Thompson, Georgetown, Stephon (Johannas) Thompson, Lexington, Jonathon (April) Thompson, Lexington, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:30 am on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, Rev. Levi Junior Wright, Elder Cornelius Parnell, and Pastor Doug Kellione officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow the service at Evergreen Memory Gardens, Lexington. Serving as pallbearers will be William Thompson, Anthony Withers, Kevin West, Elijah Betts, Phillip Kellione, Tory Whiting, and Jay Whiting. Honorary pallbearers will be James Thompson, Stephon Thompson, Johnny Thompson, Tay'Sean Thompson, Hayden Hanson, and Alaki Thompson. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolence and share memories here on James's tribute wall.
