Jeralene Curtis Johnson was born June 25, 1920 in Lexington, Ky. to the late Mamie and Raymond Lewis Curtis. At the age of 102 years, she was called home to her eternal rest on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
As a child being raised in Lexington, she confessed hope in the Lord Jesus Christ and became a member of the Main Street Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Pastor J.W. Gibson at the tender age of 11 yrs. old.
Main Street Baptist was her beloved church home, where she attended faithfully until she fell into ill health. She was a long time member of The Bonnie Johnson Missionary Circle and the Senior Adult Society. She would participate down through the years in the annual Loyalty Month Women's Day Choirs and as well as ushering in her senior years.
Sis. Jeralene enjoyed fishing (immensely), as well as board games, bingo, cooking, and knitting. Sis. Jeralene was known as a hard worker, holding multiple jobs simultaneously for most of her adult life. She was a domestic housekeeper, a CNA at Stephens Nursing Home, and a full time CNA at Eastern State Hospital. She maintained all the daily jobs until she had a heart attack and could not continue. She was able to continue her work at Eastern State Hospital until her retirement after working 36 yrs.
Sis Jeralene was united in Holy matrimony to Robert Jay Johnson Sr. who preceded her in death in June, 1993. God blessed their union to which 13 children were born. She had one brother, Raymond Knox Curtis, who preceded her in death. She has one Sister-in-Law: Alice Curtis (Lex) who lives to mourn her passing. Sis. Jeralene had three of her children: Eula, Robert Jay Johnson Jr. and Bobbie Jay Lawson, to precede her in death.
There is a flock left to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory: Sons: Ronald ( Vivian) Johnson (Yuba City, California);Roger Johnson(Lex); Daughters: Carolyn Steed (Lex); Doralthea(Charles) Rodgers(Lex); Charity(Warfield) Hill (Louisville) ; Tommie Caulder (Lex); Jeralene (James) Greenlee(Lex); Peggy (Larry) Arnold(Lex); Jannifer (Elder Wayne) Cornelius(Lex) Niece: Sharon (William)Ravens(Lex) Nephews : Raymond (Rachel) Curtis Jr.(Atlanta, Georgia); Donald Curtis(Lex) Bonus Sons and Daughters : Beverly Persley; Rose Sewell; Faith McCoomer; Dedra Williams; Sharon and Henry Mason: Beverly Hardin and Robert Brooks; and the entire Duke and Powell families, (all of Lexington). Additionally, Sis Jeralene had a host of grand children, great, and great great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends, as well as a loving Church family.
