In Loving Memory of Jermaine L. Shanks Sr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jermaine L. Shanks Sr., who departed this life on March 26, 2025, at the age of 47. Born on June 10, 1977, to Freddie and Brenda Shanks Sr., Jermaine was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him.

Jermaine was known for his infectious humor, magnetic personality, and boundless love for his family. He had a way of making everyone around him laugh, bringing joy to any room he entered. His presence was truly a gift, and he will be remembered as the life of the party, a devoted father, a beloved son, and a cherished friend. His love for his family was unwavering, and his impact on those he held dear is immeasurable.

He leaves behind his mother, Brenda Shanks, his brother, Freddie Shanks Jr., and his beloved children—Khamaria, Brenae, Jakia, Jermaine Jr., Jasmine, Mariyah, JaMarion, and Jatavian, who were the pride and joy of his life. Jermaine also shared a deep bond with his special cousins, whom he loved as siblings: Courtney Shanks, Phyllis McKissick, David Garth, Emanuel Shanks, Angie Christian, Gary Drake, Michael Pettus, and Dametrius Drake. Along with them, he is survived by a host of family and dear friends, all of whom will miss him profoundly.

Jermaine was welcomed into eternity by those who passed before him, including his father, Freddie Shanks Sr., his uncles, George Shanks Sr. and Eldridge Shanks, and his aunts, Shirley Russell, Linda Garth (Dwight), and Edna Shanks. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and love will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

A celebration of Jermaine's life will be held on April 5, 2025, at Shiloh Baptist Church. The wake will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to O.L. Hughes Funeral Home.

Jermaine's laughter, love, and larger-than-life presence will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace and love.
