Obituary

Mr. Joe C. Stewart, of Gallatin, Tennessee, peacefully transitioned from this life on November 2, 2025. Joe accepted Christ at an early age and remained a devoted and unwavering servant of the Lord throughout his life. He was a loyal Deacon of Jimtown baptist Church, where he faithfully served for many years.

He was a proud graduate of Douglas High School, Class of 1963, and built a long and dedicated career serving his community. He was infamously known for spreading words of wisdom and inspiration through his notorious one liners. Joe worked as a postman for the USPS, a skycap for Delta Airlines, and lasty, an employee for Fayette County Public schools, from which he retired after many years of service. On August 9, 1991, Joe was united in marriage to Bertha Edwards Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.B. "Bud" Thomas Stewart and Malisia Belle "Mama Sissy" Coggins Stowart, as well as his siblings Mary Arletta Stewart Sweat (Jeff, Sr.), Thomas Letron Stewart, Sr. (Mary Francis), William Oscar Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Wanda Jones, Bert Edwards (Gail), Michael Edwards (Alice). Delores Edwards, and grandson LaMarcus Stewart. Joe leaves, to cherish his memory, his loving children: Joe C. Stewart, Jr. (Alicia), Andrew Harris (fiancé Leah), Treena Burnette (Kevin), Christy Wright (special friend Moric Palmer), and Tonia Stewart (fiancó Craig Brooks). He is also survived by his sister Judy D. Stewart Flippin (John); sister-in-law Gloria Edwards Tompkins (Sam); brothers James Leslie Stewart (Elizabeth), brothers-in-law; Joe Mitchell Edwards (Tanya), and Walter Edwards (Jo Carolyn); fifteen beloved grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Poppy": and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.

Special thanks to his dear friends and the staff of Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home for their care and support whenever he called. Mr. Joe Stewart's life was a testament to faith service and love for his family and community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
