Obituary

Lawrence David Montgomery, Jr. affectionally known as "Bookie" was the first of five children born to the union of Mary Evelyn and Lawrence David Montgomery Sr. He was born on May 30, 1952, in Wilmington, NC. God called Lawrence to take his eternal rest February 21, 2025, He spent his formal years in the Fayette County Public Schools. He attended Lexington Junior High School, and Dunbar High School. He. graduated from Henry Clay High School in 1971. He then attended Morehead State University where he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Lawrence professed hope in Christ early in his life. His spiritual growth was most important to him. He was very active at his church and served his community. He was a devoted member of Embrace Church where he worshiped and served with a full heart. He served on the Lead Team. He found joy in being a greeter during the Monday night outreach ministry and served on the prayer team. He opened the worship services by welcoming members and visitors to worship. He also visited with homebound members as well as provided encouragement to many members in the church. After college, Lawrence left Lexington and ventured to Philadelphia, PA. This became his home for 30 years. His love of cooking guided him to becoming a chef in several restaurants in Philly. He also appreciated the art of decorating outside which led him to experiment with landscaping. As the Lord would lead him, he returned to Lexington, Ky to be a caregiver for his mom and to help with the care of his dad. Lawrence was a lover of life and loved talking to others and encouraging people in life lessons, especially his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed music, reading, the arts, watching TV and being active in his church! Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Lawrence Montgomery and 3 nieces; Vicktesia, Elmia, & Davina, but leaves to cherish his memory, 3 brothers: Charles (Venessa) Montgomery, William (Shirley) Montgomery, and Ronald Lee Montgomery. 4 sisters; Sherill (Kenny Miller) Montgomery, Stacey Boyd, Lanita Purnell, and Lauren Edwards, one uncle; William Montgomery (Uncle Bill 80 yrs old) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins. friends and church members,
