Mary Elizabeth Upton of Lexington, Kentucky, gained her wings on her 98TH Birthday, Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Signature Healthcare in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Mary was an only child born to the late Fred William Upton of Knoxville, Tennessee and Mary Frances Holt of Lexington.

Mary found the Lord at an early age at Bethel Baptist Church and later moved her letter to Greater Liberty Baptist Church. She sang in the choir under the pastorates of the late Rev. A.B. Lee, the late Rev. Walter Taylor, Sr. and in her latter years, under Elder Marcus Underwood, Sr.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and step-children, Mary Gunn, Larry McKnight and Mary Miller.

She is survived by her son, Raymond (Charlene) Jones; two daughters, Thelma Thomas and Gwen (George) Brown of Kansas City, Missouri; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and ten plus great- great-grandchildren; two special friends, Joyce Floyd and John Hughes; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
