Sara Catherine Johnson was born on November 23, 1939, in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Earl D.
Johnson and Catherine Canady. She confessed her faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at an early
age at Greater Liberty Baptist Church, the family church, in Lexington.
Sara attended Fayette County Public Schools and later moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she worked
and attended church with her children. In the mid-1970's she returned with her family to Lexington.
Known by all as a sweet-spirited and kind woman who loves the Lord, Sara was dutiful in every role over
her lifetime, including servant of God, faithful and loving mother, and dutiful employee. One of her favorite
jobs was with the Veterans Administration, University of Kentucky campus. After retiring from work, she unselfishly served her family by babysitting her grandchildren. She always put family
first and was known for helping others and encouraging family to stay connected.
Until her dying day, as witnessed by her loved ones, Sara praised and thanked God for being so good to
her and her family. In her last years, she faithfully attended Now Faith Worship Center. Indeed, she was
on her way to the house of the Lord for Sunday service just before departing this earth.
Our beloved Sara was preceded in death by two sons Charles "Chuck" Lewis, Jr., and Keith Lewis. She is
survived by and leaves to cherish her memory six children: Phyllis "Peejay" (Billy) Williams of Lexington,
Terry (Holly) Lewis of Lexington, LouElla "Lulu" Lewis-Harris of New York City, Nahum Israel of Lexington, André (Tracy) Johnson, her caregivers, of Lexington, and Erica (James Grey) Johnson of Lexington; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; special sister in Christ Ms. Katie
Byers; friends; and her loyal 17-year-old dog, Special.
