Stanley Gene Glass, known fondly as "Stan the Man," passed away on November 17, 2024, in Lexington, KY, at the age of 82. Born on September 28, 1942, in Bourbon Co., KY, he led a life marked by dedication to his community and country.
Stan graduated from Bourbon County High School in Paris, KY, and soon after served honorably in the U.S. Army for four years, achieving the rank of Sergeant. His military service included roles that showcased his skill and dedication, notably as a cook, where he was responsible for nourishing his fellow soldiers.
Following his military service, Stan's career path included significant roles such as an Assistant Manager at McDonald's, a factory worker at Trane Company, and later, an Assistant Food Service Administrator at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Lexington. His work ethic and leadership were evident throughout his career, reflecting his commitment to service in every capacity.
Beyond his professional life, Stan was a pillar in the Lexington community. He was a master gardener who not only cultivated his garden but also generously contributed fresh produce to local food banks. His passion for sports was unparalleled; he was a staunch supporter of the Kentucky Boys Sweet 16 tournament, University of Kentucky athletics, a season ticket holder for the Lexington Legends, a local coach for women's softball, and an umpire for the city of Lexington USSSA/ASA. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and fisherman. Additionally, Stan dedicated countless hours volunteering for various organizations including the Lexington Host Committee, Lions Club, and 101 Club.
Stan is survived by his loving spouse, Marie Glass; daughter, Kathleen (David) Rivers; stepson, George (Pam) Sledd; stepdaughter, Julie Proctor; stepson, Nick Garten; stepdaughters Laura (Kenneth Sexton) Howard and Sheila (Eric) Cummins; stepson, Bryan Garten; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his spouse Sarah Glass and stepson John Sledd.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memory Gardens, Paris, KY and a memorial service will be held on December 30, 2024; details regarding the time and location of the memorial service will be announced as they are determined. Stan's legacy of generosity, leadership, and community involvement will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
