Anna Crumbie Obituary

Anna Summers Crumbie, 88, Widow of Samuel W. Crumbie, departed this life Monday September 25, 2023, at Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington, KY.

She was the daughter of the late Ida Bell and Herbert Stanley Summers Sr. Born in Little Rock, KY, she moved to Carlisle, KY as a baby and began school at the Booker T. Washington School. Upon passing to the second grade, she moved to Paris where she enrolled and graduated from Western High School and subsequently attended Kentucky State College.

On June 15, 1958, Anna married Samuel Woodson Crumbie. Their blessed union gave birth to beautiful, God-fearing children: Tony Crumbie of Cincinnati, OH; Tanya (James) Burbridge of Frankfort, KY; Timothy (Donna) Crumbie of Lexington, KY; and Tyron (Shelia) Crumbie, also of Lexington, KY. She was a proud grandmother to Paige Crumbie of Atlanta, GA and BriAnna Burbridge of Frankfort, KY. She has also been blessed with bonus family members: Nick, Connor, and Makenna Slone of Richmond, KY, and Keisha Granville of Cincinnati, OH. All her children and grandchildren survive her.

She leaves behind two brothers: Dudley Bell Jr. of Lexington, KY, and Danny Bell (Mary) of Muskegon, MI; three sisters: Joan Parker (Robert) of Memphis, TN; Nina Willis (E.B.) of Dayton, OH; and Cordelia Cunningham of Paris, KY. Her sister-in-law, Nyoka Summers of Dayton, OH, also survives her. She will be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She held a deep hope to reunite with all at the gulf on the right side of paradise someday (Luke 16:26).

Anna was preceded in death by her brothers, John Gillispie and Herbert Summers Jr.; sisters, Stella Ruth Summers, Mary Emma Gray, Mamie Lee Grigsby, Annie Hay Bell, and Nanie Rose Walters; sisters-in-law, Eugenia Gillispie and Kay Bell; and brothers-in-law, Joe Gray and DT Walters.

At the age of twelve Anna joined and was baptized at the Seventh Street Christian Church by Elder I. H. H. Moore. There she remained a loyal member for 76 years and was the longest currently active member of the Church. Even after she was unable to attend, her Sunday mornings always began with Seventh Street on Facebook Live. She was an ardent worker in the church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the Sr Choir under Ms. Annie Laythan, She was a member of the Jr. Usher Board, Junior Missionary, Sr. Missionary and Sr. Usher Board holding the office of Corresponding Secretary for many years. She also held several offices including: Sunday School Secretary, General Board Secretary and Asst General Board Secretary and served as the Church Clerk from 1982 to 2019.

While a member of the Senior Ushers Board, Anna recognized the importance of engaging younger children in the church. To address this, she collaborated with other members to establish a group of youth ushers, catering to children aged 6-12. This group was named J.P.U. (Junior Prep Ushers). She cherished her time working with the J.P.U. and deeply missed her active involvement with them when she was no longer able to usher.

Two of Anna’s greatest passions were her family and crafting. She could give any item a second life and turn any household item into art. Give her a paper clip, and she would return to you an angel to hang from your rearview mirror, protecting you on the road. There's no telling how many of her angels still dangle from mirrors in vehicles today. She and her siblings always made sure to organize a family reunion each year. Since 1964, only Covid has been able to stop the Hughes, Cunningham, and Lee Family reunion. This year, she was able to attend for the first time in a few years. The smile she had on her face when greeting family members, both old and new, is a wonderful memory that will never fade.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Seventh Street Christian Church, 122 W 7th Street, Paris, KY. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
