Louise Charles Obituary

Louise Carr Charles, 102, of Fayette County, passed away on June 12. She was born in Lexington on August 3, 1919, as the second of the late Frank and Nellie Carr’s six children. Louise was wed to the late Joseph Lindsey Charles and celebrates 46 years of marriage until his passing in 1981.

Louise leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Joseph R. Charles of Georgetown, Peggy Watkins of Lexington, Linda (Eugene) Oakley of Lexington, Larry Dee (Jenny) Charles of Cynthiana; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; extended family, James Arnold, Rodney Arnold, Polly Hilliard, and many other friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter- in-law, Anna Charles; a grandson, Douglas Charles; great-grandson, James Hunter Arnold; four sisters and one brother.
Louise was a faithful member of Old Union Christian Church since the age of 12, where she taught Sunday school for more than 20 years. She was also a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF). Louise received her GED in 1975 and was named an Honorary Member of the Bryan Station Class of 1975, graduating with her two granddaughters.

Louise made many friends throughout her life and was a grandmother to even more! She loved her church, garden, working in tobacco, mowing on her John Deere, sewing quilts, cooking for everyone, and especially Christmas Eve at her house with all her family and friends. She lived her life with great zeal in all that she did and had a wide range of interests, which included a true love for reading, writing, and her first published book, “Granny Charles’ Family Favorite Recipes cookbook.” The family would like to thank the aids and nurses who cared for her and especially her dedicated sitter Anna Page.
