Mary Patton Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Patton known as Miss P, Miss Diddy, Aunt Mary, Granny Patton and Mama was born on September 10, 1928 to the late Scott Riley and Mattie Wells in Georgetown, Kentucky. She was called to her eternal heavenly rest on Sunday, November 28 at the age of 93 at Brookdale Shadowlake Senior Living Community. She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Johnny Douglas Grier and husband Sylvester Patton.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Sylvester Patton on November 8, 1959. They shared the love of Christ, Pilgrim Baptist Church, family and traveling. They shared a beautiful marriage for over 50 years. She always called him her Honey.

She received her formal education from Ed Davis High School in Georgetown, Kentucky. She worked at Eastern State Hospital for several years as a Nurses Aid and later begin doing Private Duty Nursing. She continued in sharing her gift of caring for others as she took care of her mother, Mattie Baker, father Henry Baker, Aunts, Ella Crane and Alice Bayless and husband, Sylvester Patton.

Mary Patton begin her Christian experience at an early age joining Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Georgetown, Ky. She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Baptist Church for many years. After moving to Houston she joined The Church With Out Walls.

Mary Patton was a loving and giving person always sharing what she had with others. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memory, Daughter, Beverly Dawn Montgomery of Houston, TX, Son Everett Alfred Bass (Harriet) of Houston, TX, Step Son Charles Bruce Patton (Nyetta) of Seattle WA. Step Daughter LaJune Penman, Two Sister in Laws Dorothy Smith and Alice Patton. Grand Children, Alicia Jackson Brown, Colby Verrett, Chelsea Bass, Charles Patton, Shametria Floyd, Latoya O’Neal, Latreica Citones, Lucian Penman, James PenmanJr, Michael Penman, Christopher Bryant. Three Great Grand Children, Two Great Great Grandchildren and several Generations of Nieces, Nephews and Friends.
