Ramona Hurst Obituary

Ramona Lee Poe Hurst, age 92, widow of Howard Keith Hurst, departed this life on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at her residence in Paris, surrounded by her loving family.

Ramona was born on April 11, 1931, in Bourbon County, the daughter of the late Howard Joseph and Daisy Bell Sargent Poe, was a member of the first graduating class of Bourbon County High School in 1949, was retired, having worked as the Administrative Secretary for Bourbon County Soil Conservation District for 39 years; was Band Treasurer for the Bourbon County High School Band for 31 years, as well as the secretary for 5 years; a life member of the Bourbon County Band; a member of the National Band Association; member of the Band Boosters; and a Kentucky Colonel. She was an active member of First Baptist Church for 82 years, having been baptized at age 10; served as financial secretary for 54 years, retiring at age 90; chairman of the Hospitality Committee, serving many families after the death of a loved one; served with at least 25 Ministers, as well as Youth and Music Directors.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ramona was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sharp; a granddaughter, Erin Hurst; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Marilyn McKinney; and sister-in-law, Martha Lee Hudnall Poe.

Surviving are her sons, Philip K. (Toni) Hurst, Paul Alan (Christy) Hurst; grandchildren Amy (Jonathan) Graves, Adam Keith (Ashley) Hurst, Lee (Tess) Sharp, Dana (Lafe) Hurst, Tyler (Ava) Hurst, Katie Hurst, Jacob (Janella) Hurst, Matt (Sara) Horne, and. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Bryna Elizabeth Graves, L.J. Hurst, Piper, Jude, and Jasper Sharp, Hannah and Lucas Hurst, Jack Hurst; and a brother, Roy Elvest Poe.

The funeral service for Ramone Poe Hurst will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Don Reed, Rev. Jonathan Graves, and Pastor Kyle Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with casket bearers being her grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until time for the service.
