Vada Delores Moore, a woman of profound faith and intelligence, passed away on August 27, 2023, at the age of 92 in her hometown of Lexington, Kentucky. Born on July 7, 1931, to the late Thomas and Marie (Knight) Rutherford, Vada spent her life serving her community.
Vada's commitment to caring for others was evident in her career as a registered nurse. Upon receiving her nursing degree, she began her long and fulfilling career at Cardinal Hill. Her compassionate care then extended to the baby ward of St. Joseph Hospital, where she brought comfort and expertise to countless families. Vada concluded her professional journey at Comp Care, where she was known for running a tight ship and setting a high standard of care for all her patients.
In addition to her nursing career, Vada was a woman of diverse interests and talents. She was a semi-pro bowler, a testament to her competitive spirit and determination. Her love for travel took her to many different places, enriching her life experiences and broadening her perspectives. An avid bridge player, Vada was a regular at Longhorn's on Harrodsburg Road until 2017, where she formed lasting friendships and enjoyed the camaraderie of the game.
Vada's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church for many years. Her faith-filled life was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her devotion was evident in her daily actions and interactions.
Vada is survived by her devoted daughter, Bonnie (Bernard) Brown, and her beloved grandchildren, Patrice, Reid, Alicia, and Veronica Brown. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Kaydence Brown, Victoria Davis, and Camille Kenney, who brought immense joy to her later years. Vada was predeceased by her loving husband, Hume Moore; granddaughter, Victoria Brown, and brother, Tommy Rutherford.
Vada's life was marked by her dedication to service and her unwavering faith. She will be remembered as a woman of great intelligence, with a heart full of love and a spirit full of resilience. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all the lives she touched throughout her nursing career and community involvement.
Visitation for Vada will be Tuesday, September 5th 10:00 until 12:00 pm at Main Street Baptist Church located at 582 W. Main Street, Lexington. A service to celebrate Vada's life will begin at 12:00 pm with Pastor Victor Sholar presiding. Interment in Evergreen Memory Gardens will follow.
